After graduation from Mt Hope High School Charles McKenny was assigned in Viet Nam to be an advisor to the Royal Thai Army of Thailand. He was responsible for a battalion of troops, with responsibilities to advise all commanders, Officers, and Non-Commission Officers, and assist with any combat situations that the battalion encountered. For his outstanding service Charles was awarded the Bronze Star with "V" (Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster) and the Army Commendation Medal with "V" (Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster).

In 1974 he graduated from Prairie View A&M, Paris, Texas with a B.S. in Business Management, then went to work for the US Postal Service as a Supervisor of Mails in Jersey City, NJ. In 1983-84 Charles was a general manager at Church's Fried Chicken, managing a $1 million per year business, then was hired as general manager for the McDonald's franchise in Englewood, NJ. By 1989 Charles was managing 4 McDonald's restaurants, with gross annual sales of over $6 million, and was awarded "Manager of the Year" for McDonald’s of Harlem in 1985, 1986, 1987 & 1988.

His success as operations manager led to his promotion to Director of Operations for McDonald's of Harlem in NYC from 1992 to 1998, and thereafter became the President of Jersey City Ponderosa Inc., where he was directly responsible for the leadership role in building the first Ponderosa Steakhouse in Northern New Jersey.

Since 2004 he has been Supervisor / Blue seal Operator at Hudson County School Of Technology in Jersey City, NJ.

In addition to his military and business careers, Charles is Elder / Member of the Board Of Trustee at the House Of Prayer Church; is a Hudson County Work Investment Board Director & Chair of Youth Investment; and is the Founder / President of the Mountain of Hope Organization.
